Ok, it’s now 1995, I have a 4 and 2 year old. I’m off to get a job……
I decided I needed to work with people……customer service was where I was headed.
I was lucky enough to get the 1st job I applied for. Customer Service for Allworth Homes. A project home company. What did I know about the business??? Absolutely nothing !!!!! I didn’t even own a home, let alone know anything about building one. But that wasn’t going to stop me.
My job description was basic…..answer the phone, know how to answer questions about the houses on display and make appointments for the salesman……yeah right !!!!!
I decided I was going to learn every little thing I could about building a home. Understanding land gradients, building plans, inclusions and available options, costings and everything else that’s needed. And so I did !!!!!
I ended up going way above my job description while someone else got the credit and the commission….. I didn’t care as long as our clients were treated well and went away happy.
From there I made what I believe now to be the wrong job choice for me. I decided I would progress into real estate…..don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against real estate agents or the way the industry is run……it’s just as a single parent with some issues at home ( more to come at a later date), it just wasn’t right for me.
After a period out of work, again for other reasons, I applied to a sales consultant position in a ladies fashion store.
At the time of application I had no idea what store…..3 days later I started with Noni B……that was 2005.
10 years on and I’m still there. Still singing, dancing and doing my thing. People seem to like it…..so I’ll just keep it up.
