Just one is too many.

This morning I woke to the news that a two year old had lost their life . The unthinkable part is that they had died due to the abhorrent actions of someone they knew, yet again. There was sadness and disbelief for the toddler and the family, however I also felt rage. How often do we hear this scenario?

I cannot even begin to understand what an innocent child could possibly do to deserve something like this. I know we don’t have all the answers and due to the delicate nature of the crime, we,  the public will probably never know. But there is just no excuse. This happens too many times over, the perpetrator is quite often drug affected or mentally ill or both……or just cruel. This is where our justice system must make the time fit the crime. Our sentencing laws in Australia are way too lax. This offender should be put in jail for many, many years to come. Having said that, no amount of time behind bars will be enough for the family of this angel.

We are a few days out from Christmas. A time when a two year old is full of excited anticipation,  they may have had a photo with Santa already, Christmas tree is up and waiting. Gifts will have been purchased, gifts that will never be opened. Not only has this man taken a child’s life, he has also taken the life out of the family. Christmas will never, ever be the same again.

Life will never be the same again. It has been changed irrecoverably for ever more. My heart goes out to the family of this innocent angel that is now out of pain, a pain that this innocent one should never have had to endure.

No matter what, you don’t hurt the children.

Hug your family a little closer this Christmas and take a moment for the ones gonetoo soon.

I'd love to hear from you, any feedback will be most appreciated.
